JAKE STEPP DIES OF WOUNDS

Manzo Surener, Of Cranks Creek, Is Charged With The Murder-Surgener in Jail

   Manzo Surgener, of Cranks Creek, was brought to Harlan Friday, charged with the murder of Jake Stepp. The killing occurred at the home of Surgener, and according to the testimony, Stepp and he were engaged in a partnership in the manufacture of moonshine liquor.

   Stepp was brought to a local hospital, but died Friday. Two brothers of Surgener are held by the Commonwealth as chief witnesses. Their story as told the special Grand Jury Saturday, placed the blame for the killing upon their brother, Manzo.
