James "Hoss" Stapleton

    James Stapleton, "Hoss" age 65, of Whiting, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, April 8, 2003. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 44 years, Oma Stapleton of Whiting, three children, Beverly (Jeffery) Murzyn of Whiting, Deda (Drew) Elbaor of Hammond, John (Linda) Stapleton of Phoenix, AZ, five grandchildren, Nicole Trent, Taryn Elbaor, Eryn Murzyn, James Murzyn, Chara Parfitt, two step-grandchildren, Tabitha Stapleton and Samantha Stapleton, family members Barbara Dudley, Erica Dudley, Mallarie Schmitt, Chris Parfitt, brothers; Martin (Gloria) Stapleton of Crown Point, Charles (Nancy) Stapleton of Ohio, William (Ann Marie) Stapleton of Hammond, sisters; Virginia (Edward) Calahan of Ohio, Almeda Stapleton of Schererville, numerous nieces and nephews and all of the Smith family. Preceded in death by mother and father, Delora and Charles Stapleton of Kentucky.
    James retired from LTV after 38 years of service. Member of the Whiting Moose Lodge. James enjoyed making many wood working projects that he sold and gave as gifts to many people. James also did many projects for residents of the Hammond-Whiting Care Center.
    Visitation will be Thursday, April 10, 2003 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until time of service at 8:30 p.m. with Rev. Jesse Spencer officiating at the Owens Funeral Home, Calumet Ave. and 119th St., Whiting. Funeral will be held in Smith, Kentucky and laid to rest at Old Middleton Cemetery in Kentucky. Flowers can be sent to Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlen, Kentucky. Donations can be made in James' name to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
